Watch brand smashes crowdfunding target as it launches in western market

A Japanese watch brand whose flagship creation mirrors a vintage automatic camera lens has smashed its crowdfunding target by more than £21,000 with three weeks of its fundraising still to go.

TACS, which stands for ‘Taste, Attractiveness, Creativity and Style’, set out to raise £40,000 when it embarked on the exercise, which marks its official launch into the western market.

But with 19 days still to go it has banked £61,000 from 190 backers, which equates to 121% of its target.

Its ‘Automatic Vintage Lens’ watch, which is designed by Yoshiaki Motegi and inspired by Japanese Zen philosophy, is based on the look of the vintage rangefinder camera and the company hopes the piece will be a hit with photography enthusiasts.

Both the watch face and watch back is built with scratch resistant sapphire glass that also creates a fish eye effect, giving the Automatic Vintage Lens an authentic camera look. Made with a skeleton design, the openworked dial offers a view into the complex inner workings of the movement inside.

Instead of the standard numbered watch face for the minor indices, the watch displays focal length and aperture numbers to indicate the time.

The automatic customized gold plated Miyota 82S0 is tailored to fit inside the Automatic Vintage Lens. The power reserve will last 40 hours and will run indefinitely as long as there is movement, according to the brand.
