VIEREN watch review: OG Automatic

Sunny Fong’s background in fashion really shines through when having the seven-row single link stainless steel bracelet strapped to your wrist.

Equality and more specifically gender equality are among the hottest topics among the modern world today.

Not to be left behind on a rightful important issue, the luxury industry is keen to always allocate time, product and design to watchmaking.

Most recently, Canada-based watch brand VIEREN has gone one step further, going all in on its unisex collection and having worn the OG Automatic for a number of outings over the past fortnight, I can safely say it is a head turner.

In a bid to modernise the monochromatic, as the brand describes, the all black automatic watch which is powered by the ETA-2671 features a matte black dial design that runs through the bracelet too.

In doing so, and deploying the DLC technology, VIEREN and the design is right on when both men and women are seeking that sophisticated style.

Featuring 25 jewels and offering a 44 hour power reserve, the watch is water resistant to 30 metres and like all VIEREN timepieces is certified Swiss Made.

Designed in Canada by one of the brand’s co-founders, Sunny Fong’s background in fashion really shines through when having the seven-row single link stainless steel bracelet strapped to your wrist.

Commenting on the design process, Fong explained how he wanted to “bring a new approach to luxury watchmaking for today’s generation.”

A mission I would be more than happy to confirm he’s achieved with the OG Automatic.

Fong went on to detail how the rectangular shaped watch case was inspired by the art and architecture of Mies van der Rohe and Louise Nevelson along with the monochromatic dial designs.

That said, in terms of accessibility for the watch lovers among us, both the matte black design as well as the Matte White model look equally as good on the wrist as one another for both the male and female taste.

Looking more closely at the piece, VIEREN has added its signature 18K gold-plated reflector ring etched with minutes tracker detail as is on every VIEREN timepiece

Keeping with the theme, it also offers polished black hours and minutes hands and matte black seconds hand.

Priced at $1,800, the versatility the watch offers certainly makes it an attractive option for the modern day man or woman.
