Ulysse Nardin celebrates military heritage with 2018 novelties

Ulysse Nardin has unveiled news of three timepieces ahead of SIHH: the Marine Torpilleur Military, Classico Manufacture and the Marine Tourbillion.

The Classico piece, as the name suggests, is a classic and minimal looking piece that sports a black or white enamel dial.

Ulysse Nardin is most proud of the black enamel dial due to the difficulty of its creation. The selection of the enamel powder is crucial in determining the result: black can only be created by applying different and carefully chosen coloured pigments to the substrate, giving the enamel opacity and depth, not to mention the process of smoothing and polishing the enamel which is incredibly precise.

Housed in the distinctive case of the Classic Collection, with its rounded shape and slim lugs, this timepiece possesses the Classic’s iconic leaf-shaped hands.

The black Grand Feu enamel dial has white markers and hands, while the white Grand Feu enamel dial has contrasting black hands and markers. The 40mm stainless steel case houses the Caliber UN-320 movement, capable of a 48 hour power reserve, small seconds, and forward and backwards date correction. The pieces will retail for €8,000.

Ulysse Nardin celebrates its rich military and marine history with the Marine Torpilleur Military, a modern chronograph built around the celebration of marines and the Torpilleur boat.

The 300 piece limited edition is powered by the UN-118 manufacture COSC-certified movement. It comes in two variants: one with an eggshell white dial, outlined Arabic numerals, matched by a tan leather strap.

The other in chic black, with orange Arabic numerals and superluminova-coated hands – ideal for legibility in the dark – and attached to the wrist with a black strap with orange stitching. The 44mm steel watch retails for €7,900.
