UK watch shopper Jonathan Marques-Maycock won an international competition run by TW Steel to give him the experience of a lifetime.
Marques-Maycock became eligible for the competition when he bought a TW Steel watch from retailer Tylers in Loughborough. He then wrote to the brand describing his dream of resurrecting helicopter pilot lessons, which financial difficulties had forced him to drop, so that he could apply for a job with the air ambulance service.
The story hit a note with online voters and Marques-Maycock won more than 30,000 votes, beating off competition from other shortlisted TW Steel shoppers and their dreams to win the Pilot Your Life competition.
TW Steel will now help Marques-Maycock financially to pass all of his exams to become a helicopter pilot, allowing him to pursue his dream job.
Marques-Maycock was hugely proactive during the voting stage of the competition, turning to social media to help get votes. He also got his local MP involved who wrote to her constituents asking them to vote for him.
