TW Steel prepares for take-off with new Spitfire collection

TW Steel has teamed up with BMW Motorrad and VTR customs to design the new ACE Spitfire watch collection.

Inspired by the fighter aircraft famed for helping Allied Forces to victory in WWII, the new timepiece combines the worlds of aviation, watches and custom motorcycles.

Based in the Netherlands, TW Steel worked with motorcycle manufacturer BMW Motorrad and German-based company VTR customs to turn the iconic Supermarine Spitfire into a Swiss-made timepiece.

Honouring the majestic Spitfire in design and power, TW Steel, BMW Motorrad and VTR Customs created a timepiece and custom motorcycle simultaneously.

CEO of TW Steel, Jordy Cobelens, said: “We said we were going to take Swiss luxury somewhere and here we are. Working with BMW Motorrad and VTR Customs has been a great experience. We love their passion for engineering and seeing the Spitfire bike take shape has been a thrilling experience. We look forward to achieve great success in the Sultans of Sprint.”

TW Steel has released six limited edition timepieces following the partnership.

Each of the TW Steel ACE Spitfire Limited Edition timepieces feature oversized 316L high grade, stainless steel cases with rough matte brushing.

They have a unique hook design with pusher function, screwed crown and luxurious scratch-resistant, anti-reflective sapphire crystals.

The ACE201 timepiece is powered by the Swiss Sellita SW510 automatic chronograph movement with 27 jewels and a power reserve of 48 hours while the other five models have the Swiss Sellita SW500 automatic chronograph with a power reserve of 48 hours and 25 jewels.

The design draws on aviation history, with the ACE201 watch displaying the RAF logo on the dial and each of the other five designs drawing elements from one of aviation’s most iconic piece of engineering.

Ton Cobelens, chief designer officer of TW Steel, said: “We’ve got six timepieces here, each one is luxury, each one has Swiss-made quality at its core and each one has that TW Steel energy running through it. When we saw the response from the ACE Genesis timepiece, we knew our next ACE watch had to be a step above and I think that’s what we have here. It’s something we’re incredibly proud of.”
