TRIBUS chronometer evokes memories of the golden age of flight

TRI-02 – GMT 3 Timezone combines Swiss-made precision with a modern-retro style.

TRIBUS is challenging perceptions of time, the brand says.

The British watch business aims to carve out its own voice with a refreshing and unconventional style – one unlike few others within the Swiss watch industry.

Co-founder James Ward tells WatchPro: “Personality is essential. Across our range, we offer the same levels of engineering as many others in the Swiss watchmaking world — all our core range of watches are COSC certified, with truly Swiss-made cases thanks to our manufacturer in Lugano, Switzerland.

“However, at the same time we’re not afraid to be real people, adding character to the way we talk and present ourselves. Our aim is to challenge people’s perceptions of how they see the watchmaking world. We just want to present a traditional industry in our own contemporary way.”

One of the brand’s latest ranges of Chronometers is the TRI-02 – GMT 3 Timezone COSC.

TRIBUS describes the TRI-02 as having ‘vintage influences that will take you straight back to that golden age of flight.

Only the COSC-certified movement, triple timezone functionality and striking black/yellow colour scheme will bring you back to the modern age and lack of legroom, the brand jokes.

It’s a watch that displays the brand’s DNA – described as ‘modern retro’ – succinctly; and in the case of the TRI-02, it remains reminiscent of the boldly legible aviation watches of old whilst still definitely its own.

A Sellita SW330 movement, certified to COSC specifications, is visible through the TRI-02’s exhibition caseback.

Underneath a double-domed sapphire crystal, a fourth GMT hand is read against 24-hour chapter ring on the TRI-02’s dial, while an adjustable outer bezel can monitor a third timezone.

A choice of brushed stainless steel or gunmetal case finishes are also available, while the TRI-02’s case features twin screw-down crowns and a water resistance of 150m. Accompanying bracelets, rubber and leather straps see out the range.

This is a brand bold enough to say what it thinks. By partnering with football clubs, street artists and rock bands, the TRIBUS view is that luxury watchmaking can be presented in a more authentic, natural way.

Whether using unorthodox dial colours, chronometer-certified movements or Swiss-made cases, it’s only a matter of time before you add one to your collection.
