Titoni’s famous Seacoper has resurfaced, nearly 50 years on.
In bringing back this exciting dive watch at what many would consider an attractive price point for what is a stunning piece, the Swiss-based brand looks set to make waves with the comeback.
Spending a week with the watch on my wrist, the automatic T10 manufacture movement is the first thing to be a tick in the right box for me – and coupled with a porthole-style transparent caseback, I got a great view of it.
The first Seascoper came out in 1963, at that time still under the name Felca, Titoni’s parent brand.
As described on Titoni’s own website, the appeal of this legendary 1960s Seascoper lays primarily in its practical design and the outstanding legibility of its dial.
The latest model, the Seascoper 600, is a COSC-certified chronometer that marks a historic turning point: fitted with Titoni’s very own T10 manufacture movement, it is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 600 metres.
While on the topic of ruggedness, the wind-in crown is also fitted with a bespoke gasket system allowing the watch to remain completely waterproof while the tough casing ensures it is not only protected from pressure, but also dust and impact.
While the watch was developed specifically for professional divers and to set standards in its field, the Seascoper goes much further than delivering on just that.
From a practical sense the watch is not too heavy for comfort, but offers enough weight to physically feel the quality that oozes from the timepiece.
In terms of functionality, the ceramic bezel can be rotated anti-clockwise with relative ease too due to the serration on the outside, making it easy to grasp and handle too.
The triangular zero mark also offers a luminous dot for added visibility in dark, sometimes murky conditions.
42mm across with anti-reflective coating on both sides of the glass, the design also incorporates a folding clasp – made specifically for this model, and from experience of wearing this watch for the past week, the stainless steel bracelet not only offers comfort but safety in wearability too.
With a real solid feel to it, the Seascoper 600 symbolises class and really does tap into luxury at a fairly attainable and accessible retail value of £1,625.
