TimeLab to reveal new certification

A new chronometric certification is to be launched at BaselWorld this week open to all mechanical watches made in Switzerland.

The TimeLab Foundation will reveal the details of its Chronometric+ Observatory certificate which will relate to the chronometric performance of the finished watch as well as reports on other aspects relating to its reliability, water resistance, magnetic resistance, power reserve and performance on the wrist.

The standard will allow a watch to be officially described as a ‘chronometer watch’ and as described by the internationally recognised ISO/CEI 3159 standard.

TimeLab operates under the authority of the State of Geneva and are required to remain neutral and independent. Its experience dates back to 1886 through the Geneva Watchmaking School and the introduction of voluntary testing for watches. It has been responsible for issuing the Poinçon de Genève certificate and from 1973 and 2013 it represented the official office of the Geneva COSC.
