Customs officials at Zürich aiport have conducted one of the country’s largest seizures of counterfeit goods, which included over 5,000 fake designer watches.
The illegal items were confiscated from August to September in a series of shipments originating from a single source in Greece. The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry has congratulated airport officials on the accomplishment, as counterfeit watches are serious threat to local industry and compromise its integrity.
The Federation also reminded consumers of links between counterfeit goods and organized crime, which often relies on their sale for profits. Every year, the organization trains officials around the world to recognize knock-off watches and destroys seized fakes.
