Thomas Mercer makes Middle East debut

Thomas Mercer has set forth on a voyage of discovery to the Middle East, choosing the Dubai International Boat Show 2014 as its first port of call in the region.

The Richmond-upon-Thames based manufacturer is keen to introduce Middle Eastern buyers to its precise and aesthetically pleasing of marine chronometer designs. Thomas Mercer heralded its arrival in the Middle East with the regional premiere of its Legacy Shackleton Epic.

Commenting upon Thomas Mercer’s participation in the show, chief executive Alessandro Quintavalle, said: “The Dubai International Boat Show is a world class event and its continuous growth reflects the Middle East’s increasing importance in the international luxury maritime market. As a drawcard for discerning visitors seeking high end products related to the yachting industry, it is a tremendous opportunity for Thomas Mercer to showcase its matchless and exclusive marine timekeepers to existing and potential customers.”

The British brand, launched in 2012 with a fifth-generation descendant of Thomas Mercer on the board, is named after the chronometer maker and seeks to offer timepieces fit for ‘the globe’s greatest vessels’.

The original incarnation of the company was established in 1858 to manufacture precision chronometers to calculate longitude at sea, was appointed Maker to the Admiralty and sent pieces on epic voyages such as the Shackleton Expedition.
