TAG Heuer says job well done to Oracle Team USA

By Hallie Engel

TAG Heuer has extended its congratulations to Oracle Team USA, which mounted a stunning comeback to win the America’s Cup decider, triumphing over Team New Zealand despite an 8-1 deficit.

The Swiss watchmaker worked closely with the Oracle Team USA research and development team to create a special edition Aquaracer Chronograph for the event, allowing Oracle Team USA to tackle the challenges of sailing with the latest in technology. The watch, which was not made commercially available, provided team members with crucial data on everything from wind speed to sail pressure in real time.

Speaking about the victory, TAG Heuer CEO and president Stéphane Linder stated: “We are extremely proud of every member of this extraordinary crew and every component on this incredible boat. Oracle Team USA showed amazing drive and guts, overcoming incredible adversity, losing boat one, getting docked two races and having to give up their star wing trimmer, but they kept their nerve, worked harder, and plowed on. And they pulled it off. It was a great and glorious moment, unprecedented in the world of competitive sailing, and we are very grateful to have been a part of it.”

Members of the winning team were also aided by sunglasses created by Tag Heuer Eyewear, which protected their vision under extreme conditions. Oracle Team USA has now earned the right to defend its title at the 35th annual America’s Cup in 2014.
