TAG Heuer creates colourful trio of Formula 1 watches

The quartz-based watches aim to capture the edge-of-your-seat appeal of Formula 1 back in the 1980s, the decade defined by Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna’s blockbuster rivalry.

It used to be accepted wisdom that you could sell watches in any colour, as long as it was blue or white.

Those days feel like another era with the pandemic year triggering an unexpected explosion in dials of many colours.

Now colour is everywhere, and the latest additions to the canon are a trio of bright Formula 1 chronographs from TAG Heuer in racy red, green and yellow.

The quartz-based watches aim to capture the edge-of-your-seat appeal of Formula 1 back in the 1980s, the decade defined by Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna’s blockbuster rivalry.

The collection, which is on sale from today for £1,550, combines sunray dials with rubber straps in matching colours.

The 43mm steel watches come with black snailed subdials and a black PVD steel fixed tachymeter bezel with raised numerals.

The quartz movement is protected by a closed steel back with a checkered flag motif.

  1. “Back to the Future”, and don’t pooh-pooh Blue, a deep-brilliant Lapis with matching Strap, would still lead the pack in Sales. Great to see the Brand beginning to show signs of being “Disruptive” again, and Prost-Senna era has to be measured against the meteoric rise of TAG-Heuer that was 1988-1998, updated with a ‘Metallic’ influence and dynamism!
