Swatch watches make 30th anniversary Basel debut

Swatch Group fashion watch brand Swatch is set to show at BaselWorld for the first time in April, as the brand prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

Swatch Group chief executive Nick Hayek will host a press conference on April 25 at the brand’s stand, regarding its plans for its 30th anniversary year.

The Swatch watch has gone through thousands of incarnations since its launch in 1983, working with fashion brands, artists and designers to create an ever-evolving array of colourful and creative watches with price tags upwards of £30.

The Swatch has also become an iconic collectors’ item with some watches selling for thousands of pounds. In 2011 the Blum Collection of more than 4,000 Swatch timepieces sold for £4 million at auction.

Swatch’s recent launches include a denim collection and a skeletonised Valentine’s day watch, unveiled as part of its global Valentine’s day campaign and competition.
