Swatch reveals 30th anniversary transparent watch

Swatch has unveiled its 30th anniversary timepiece, a see-through version of its New Gent model with a skeletonised case and gold details.

The fashion-led brand is celebrating three decades of watch design and innovative collaborations with artists and fashion designers, since it first launched the Swatch watch on March 1983,. The original timepiece was made with just 51 parts and retailed for less than 50 Swiss francs.

The brand has now revealed its Swatch Est. 1983 New Gent watch, boastig a transparent plastic case and strap and a skeleton dial. Its components are highlighted in gold and the word Celebrate is printed on the movement’s main cog. The brand’s 30 years are printed around the outside of the dial.

Italian artist Lorenzi Petrantoni has also created special edition artwork for Swatch, looking at events took place in 1983, focusing on the creation of the Swatch and its 51 parts, when rock stars Kiss performed live without make-up for the first time, when Michael Jackon’s Thriller sold 50 million copies, space shuttle Challenger made its first flight and Swatch makes a million watches in a single year.
