Traditional watchmakers continue to add smart features to their timepieces, in the case of Californian lifestyle brand Nixon, what better feature to build in than an app that tracks surf conditions around the world.
The Ultratide surfer watch features an app that displays information from Surfline, the world’s largest and most credible source for surf conditions reporting.
The watch speaks to a mobile phone via Bluetooth to provide a surfer with real time information including wave height, swell direction, wind direction and speed, water and air temperatures, Surfline rating, and custom Surf Alerts.
Surfer watches are not an entirely new category, but Nixon claims the Ultratide provides ten times more data than its competitors thanks to its exclusive partnership with Surfline.
The app will track a surfer’s session and allow it to share details with friends. Plus it will provide a notification when surf conditions are perfect at specified locations.
The watch is battery powered, so no need to re-charge, and waterproof to 100 metres.
