Luxury watches at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury’s March auction attracted high prices with many timepieces selling well over their estimated value.
Continued interested in buying pre-owned pieces at auction saw a 2008 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date gentleman’s 18ct gold watch with diamond dot and baguette numerals on the dial sell for £12,400.
The watch was the highlight of 19 Rolex pieces up for auction at the sale which included ‘a very rare’ 1940s Rolex Chronograph wristwatch (Reference 2508) with 17 jewel Rolex chronograph Valjoux movement. The watch achieved £9,300.
A Frank Müller lady’s 18 carat gold and diamond Classic Long Island wristwatch from 2000 also attracted substantial interest pre-sale. The Art Deco-inspired watch sold for £5,580.
Buyers looking for alternatives to perennially popular brands like Rolex and Cartier mean Swiss heritage brands are also attracting interest from buyers. A Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor, stainless steel chronograph wristwatch, part of the Master Extreme line, sold for £6,820 while an 18 carat gold Master Control from 2000 sold for £5,952.
Five Vacheron Constantin timepieces sold well, but with the most popular item, an 18ct gold chronograph from 2000 selling for £4,800, they represented excellent value for buyers.
A 2005 IWC Portuguese Chronograph in stainless steel also sold for £3,720.
The auction was held at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions’ Donnington Priory Saleroom in Newbury, Berkshire on March 26. The auction house’s next watch sale, which includes pens and luxury accessories, is scheduled to take place on July 8.
