SNEAK PEEK: Obaku adds contemporary colours to 2017 collections

Danish watch brand Obaku has revealed three new collections ahead of their official launch at Baselworld later this month.

Grey and rose-gold watches, a combination first seen last year, is being used heavily again in 2017, with five new best-sellers launched that use both colours in the same watches across dials, straps and cases.

Affordable beauty has always been at the heart of Obaku’s philosophy, and its 2017 pieces called Liv (Danish for Life) use simple, clean design and sell for as little as £80, a new entry price point for Obaku collection.

“In general Obaku watches are very affordable”, says Obaku brand director, Henriette Arvin. “At the Basel fair in spring 2017 we will be launching both our most affordable watch and our most expensive watch so far in our collection”. In addition to this newly launched watch in the bottom specter of Obaku’s price range, an additional 35 new SKUs will also see the first daylight at the international watch show. Among these is Obaku’s first automatic watch, which will retail at a top price point of US$299 (£244).

“Our collection now ranges from $99 to $299 (£80-244),” Ms Arvin continues. “When you look at the quality and attention to detail in the Obaku watches, you really get a lot for your money. You can indeed call it affordable luxury”.

Black is also a big trend for Obaku this year, with many of its best-sellers launching in all black versions.

Black-on-black is a particularly hot look, the brand says. “For a few years now we have seen a decline in the sales of our all black watches for men”, says Ms Arvin. “People only wanted our black gents watches when they were combined with rose-gold. Now we are seeing an increasing interest in the all-black look, which is why we are launching some of our new and best-selling lines in the dark color. They do look pretty cool”.
