British clock maker Smith of Derby is expanding its horizons with a trip to the Hotel Show in Dubai and the Index exhibition in Saudi Arabia next month following a major expansion of its research and development team in the past 18 months.
Smith of Derby said that it has received strong demand from interior designers and hoteliers in the Middle East following the launch of its Islamic prayer clock in the region last year.
Smith of Derby chief executive Bob Betts said: “The research and development side of the business has really grown this year as the demand for luxury, high-end products increase but with a twist on incredible innovation.
“The UK and the Gulf region have an incredible of amount in common, including a long association with maritime travel. Travel by sea and ocean, and the links with time and time-keeping, stretch back across the centuries. As a company, it was something we wanted to explore.”
