Seven world first watches to launch at Dubai Watch Week

Dignitaries at the opening ceremony hail importance of Dubai as a regional destination for watch connoisseurs.

A rare day of rain did not dampen spirits this morning as Dubai Watch Week threw open its doors for a day of press previews.

Dignitaries from hosts Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons and partners Christie’s and Dubai Tourism were joined by the recently appointed Ambassador of Switzerland to the UAE, Massimo Baggi who highlighted the importance of the United Arab Emirates to Swiss watchmakers.

“Two-thirds of bilateral trade between Switzerland and the UAE is watches,” Mr Baggi revealed.

Dubai Watch Week’s director general, Hind Seddiqi and Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi, chief commercial officer of Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons welcomed hundreds of journalists from around the world who have been flown in for the week long celebration of horology.

They say that there will be seven brand new limited edition watches launched at Dubai Watch Week by seven different brands, demonstrating the importance of the event and the global reputation of Ahmed Seddiqi and Sons.

As a further sign of the growing importance of Dubai and the Middle East market, Rolex has a pavilion at Dubai Watch Week, the only time it has exhibited outside Baselworld in recent years.
