A Seiko 5 Sport watch made in collaboration with legendary Queen guitarist Brian May last year was so popular, it is trading at two or three times its retail price on the secondary market.
Recognising a winning formula when they see it, Seiko and Mr May are at it again with a second limited edition, this time in a gold-coloured case.
Once again, the design is a tribute to his favourite Red Special guitar, which was made by hand by Mr May and his father.
He has used the guitar on stage and in the studio for almost half a century.
As with the first collaboration model, the dial recreates the fine details of the legendary guitar with a pressed pattern reminiscent of the texture of the wood, its glossy finish and gradated colouring.
The choice of a gold coloured case for the 2022 limited edition was made by Mr May, who says he was inspired by the recently released Gold Series of his reissued solo albums.
It comes on a nylon strap decorated with vertical stripes designed to resemble guitar strings.
It has a translucent red case back carrying Brian May’s signature and a unique number of one to 12,500, the production quantity.
The watches go on sale for £530, which could be a steal since the first collaboration piece with Brian May is being offered on the secondary market for around £800 and up to £1,200 in some instances.
It is sold in a special presentation box looking like a guitar case.
