Rox takes stock of £500k Girard-Perregeaux

By Kathryn Lewis

With the acquisition of a rare £500,000 Girard-Perregaux watch, Scottish jeweller Rox is attempting to establish itself as a serious dealer of luxury watches in Edinburgh.

The Girard-Perregeaux Opera Two in stock at Rox is the only watch of its kind in the UK. It has a 37-jewel movement, an ivory dial, a brown alligator strap and an 18ct gold case.

Kyron Keogh, managing director of Rox, said the watch, which took 500 hours to assemble, was acquired for the Edinburgh store as part of a push to establish Rox as a serious retailer for luxury watches in the Scottish capital.

He told WatchPro: “We wanted to showcase the Opera to really position Rox as a serious watch retailer. There’s a real technical excellence to that watch and what that demonstrates to our customers is that we’re a serious retailer. It’s really about repositioning Rox as a serious player in the marketplace and what better way to do it than have such a serious piece for sale in the shop?”

Keogh said he was excited about the Edinburgh market and noted that sales have been strong since the store opened its doors in October. “Scotland hasn’t evaded the luxury watch boom,” Keogh said, noting that there is a real demand for luxury watches in Edinburgh in particular. “
