Rolex most sought pre-owned brand at BQ Watches

Pre-owned watch specialist BQ Watches has revealed its top 10 most-sought timepieces, with Rolex continuing to reign as the trade brand of choice.

BQ Watches, which sells pre-owned luxury timepieces to retailers, said demand is as strong as ever. Its current most sought pre-owned styles are all Rolex, with the brand making up about 70% of its sales.

Its sales director Ian Shaffer said that despite the recession clients and consumers still want to invest in quality wristwear, and turn to pre-owned watches to do so.

“For example new Rolex prices have increased far more than the cost of second-hand models over the past few years. Indeed, a pre-owned model can be retailed for around half the cost of a new model and as the styles have changed little over the years, they look the same," he explained.

“I should point out that pre-owned [brands], especially Rolex hold their value exceptionally well. Savvy customers know this and I think that is a major reason why there has been so much interest in the past couple of years."

BQ Watches’ buying team travels overseas for about 45 weeks of the year, and are said to still find it hard to meet demand from trade retail clients and consumers. The company has also reported an annual turnover increase of more than 40% in 2012 compared to the previous 12 months, which was itself a record year for the company.

Shaffer added: “Demand for the brand [Rolex] is higher than ever. Indeed, during the recent Jewellery Show at Birmingham’s NEC, we had customers queuing up to be served.

“Last year was a record year for sales at the show, but this year we beat all expectations. The minute the doors of the exhibition were opened, until it closed, our team were constantly dealing with customers wanting to spend and the majority of buyers were seeking Rolex watches."
