Tee-off at today’s US Open will be the 40th time that the golf Major will have been kept to time under the legendary crown of Rolex.
Raucous galleries of fans may be missing at the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, over the next four days, but interest will be as intense as ever, particularly in legends like Tiger Woods (pictured top), arguably Rolex’s most famous testimonee, who is aiming to land his 16th Major at the 120th outing of the US Open.
“Renowned for its tight, tree-lined fairways and thick, punishing rough, Winged Foot is true to US Open tradition, demanding accuracy and precision – qualities reflected in Rolex’s watchmaking endeavours,” the brand says.
50-year old American Phil Mickelson will also strap on a Rolex in time to lift the trophy if he wins on Sunday. That would give him a career Grand Slam of winning all four Major trophies.
If recent form holds up, Woods and Mickelson are likely to finish behind world number two Jon Rahm, another Rolex testimonee. It would be a first Major victory for the Spaniard.
Other Rolex Testimonees on show include Australians Jason Day and Adam Scott, 2015 champion Jordan Spieth, and the in-form Justin Thomas who has enjoyed an exceptional 2020 season and enters the tournament tied for most PGA TOUR victories this year with three.
Members of the Rolex New Guard – a talented group of young golfers all keen to make their mark on the sport – seeking their first Major trophy include JoaquÃn Niemann of Chile and American duo Cameron Champ and Matthew Wolff.
