Rolex fraudster on eBay jailed for posing as ex-Manchester United WAG

Burnley Crown Court heard how he tried to sell the watch for £7,500 while acting as Wes Brown’s ex-wife.

A fraudster trying to sell a high-end Rolex he never owned via eBay has been jailed.

As part of the elaborate scam, Burnley Crown Court heard how he tried to sell the watch for £7,500 while acting as Wes Brown’s ex-wife.

According to local news source Messenger Newspapers, the man, named as Jordan Meakin, had previously legitimately sold a watch which once belonged to the former Manchester United defender’s ex-partner and had tried to repeat the deal, this time illegally.

Kevin Robins, attempting to make the online purchase, immediately complained to the postman making the delivery and went on to exchange emails with ‘Leanne Brown’, the defendant.

He asked the seller to refund the money but so-called ‘Leanne’ refused.

Meakin then continued his denial of any involvement in the deal but did eventually plead guilty to two counts of fraud.

The Messenger Newspapers report went on to describe how the court heard the plan was a ‘sophisticated scam.’

He had loosely packaged up an empty Rolex box, sent it by special delivery and then tried to claim a £2,500 insurance pay out from the Royal Mail for loss of the watch.

Meakin has been jailed for 16 months was ordered to pay £900 in compensation.

The remaining £6,950 must be repaid on his release.
