Rolex and Cartier neck and neck in world’s top 20 strongest retail brands


Two major watch brands have been listed next to each other in a list of top 20 strongest retail brands for this year.

Amongst retail brands Rolex and Cartier are placed 18th and 20th, respectively, with luxury goods brand Gucci sandwiched in 19th place.


Brand Finance’s Global 500 list calculates a brand’s strength based on analysis of marketing investment, brand equity and finally the impact of those on business performance. Following this analysis, each brand is assigned a BSI score out of 100.

In the overall list of the world’s 500 top brands, Rolex was placed 216th, an improvement of 14 from last year.

Gucci climbed 42 places from 261st up to 219th. But Cartier dropped substantially from 161st to 224th – 63 places.

The only other brands with a watch and jewellery retail offering in the top 40 strongest firms are Tiffany & Co (38th place) and Burberry (40th place).
