Richard Mille has saluted the yachtsmen involved in the fifth annual Les Voiles de Saint race in the Caribbean after the event experienced choppy waters.
Conditions described as the most extreme the race has experienced in its history led to an ‘extraordinary spectacle’.
Seventy yachts participated in the waters off Saint Barth in the Caribbean and experienced light, technically challenging winds for two days before a warm, twenty-five knot gusting wind blew in and even took the mast off one yacht.
Alex Shaerer won in the most prestigious category of the event, beating Georges David and Verder Van Nieuwland with the Marten 72 Aragon. The American owner and skipper were awarded an RM 028 Edition ‘Voiles de Saint Barth’ in titanium at the prize-giving ceremony.
2014 sees Richard Mille more heavily involved in the nautical world than ever before, having recently presented its RM 60-01 Flyback Chronograph Regatta, its first watch dedicated to sailing.
The luxury watchmaker has been principle partner of the race since it launched in 2010.
