Richard Mille returns to slim circular style for RM 033 revival watch

New RM 33-02 is a sequel to the 2011 original, and aims to appeal to a sportier customer with $145k to spare.

Richard Mille made its first slim and circular watch back in 2011, the original RM 033.

Now Julien Boillat, technical director for the brand, has revived the architecture in a follow-up watch, the RM 33-02.

Although round, the watch aims to combine the curves of Richard Mille’s familiar tonneau shape case with a circular, sportier, dial.

“The RM 033 is a watch for everyday and any day,” says Mr Boillat; a stretch of the imagination for most given the piece costs $145,000.

“We have reinterpreted its aesthetics without disservice to the original version by accentuating its lines. Meanwhile, the exterior decoration, case and dial have been reworked to project a sportier vibe. The RM 33-02 thus achieves a delicate synthesis of so-called ‘lifestyle’ style and sporty style,” he adds.

The RM 33-02 is powered by a 2.6mm thick skeletonized RMXP1 caliber in grade-5 titanium wound by an off-centre monoblock platinum bi-directional rotor.

The case, bezel and dial use a combination of gold and Carbon TPT, making the watch light, tough and luxurious.

It is being made in a limited run of 140 pieces.
