Stars including David Coleridge, Nick Horsfall and Paul Rice turned out for the launch of TAG Heuer’s Carrera Muhammad Ali Special Edition watches in London last night.
The heads of UK retailers Bucherer, Lister Horsfall and Hugh Rice were joined by other watch professionals and celebrities ranging from pop stars Geri Horner (née Halliwell) and Pixi Lott to sports presenters Gabby Logan and guest of honour Larry Holmes, the only man to have stopped Muhammad Ali in the boxing ring.
Watch retailers, celebrities, sports stars and press were attending the launch of the special edition watch that will raise money for the Muhammad Ali Centre, a non-profit museum and cultural center in Louisville, Kentucky, dedicated to boxer.
TAG Heuer began working with the Muhammad Ali began when Jean-Claude Biver, TAG Heuer CEO & president of the LVMH Group Watch Division met him in 2012. The company launched its first special edition last year, and its updated edition goes on sale from today.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Muhammad Ali Special Edition Timepiece has a 43mm stainless steel case and two crowns at 3 o’clock and 10 o’clock, to set the time and control an internal bezel that marks intervals of time. The caseback is engraved with an image of Muhammad Ali and his signature.
It is on sale across TAG Heuer’s UK retail partner network for £2350.
A commemorative TAG Heuer Carrera Muhammed Ali Limited Edition timepiece and a replica boxing glove signed by the Champion himself over 20 years ago was auctioned for £15,000 on the night, with proceeds going to The Muhammad Ali Center.
Rob Diver, managing director of TAG Heuer Europe, said: “At TAG Heuer, we aim to live by our #DontCrackUnderPressure motto. The legacy of Muhammad Ali is a daily inspiration for us all and we are honoured to be working with the Muhammad Ali Centre in preserving his memory.”
