If your taste in fashion and accessories comes from the Silicon Valley CEO playbook of black, blacker or blackest, the lastest Ressence Type 3BBB timepiece may be for you.
The watch is a back to basics extension of the Type 3 collection of oil-filled watches, first launched in 2013, that eschews colour in favour of an entirely monochrome palette.
The BBB in the name stands for black, black, black, the brand says.
Rather than coming up with a fixed production run figure for a limited edition, Ressence has merely said it will make the Type 3BBB for one year, beginning now and ending on December 31.
That should get the Ressence collector community twitching over a watch where demand is certain to exceed supply.
Ressence has made a number of changes to the Type 3 dial. All colour has been removed from the indicators, leaving only white and light grey to contrast with the black background and the running seconds indicator has been removed to make the dial less crowded.
A green SuperLuminova has been chosen over the usual blue of current Type 3s.
There is a shiny, pebble-like appearance of the Type 3BBB thanks to the Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS) driving elements of the dial in circles around each other in an oil-filled chamber between the sapphire crystal and the dial.
These elements showing hours, minutes, week days, date and oil temperature are not physically attached to the automatic 2824/2 movement, instead the parts in oil are moved by magnetic transmission from the calibre.
The Type 3BBB comes in a 44mm titanium case with black DLC.
It is water resistant to 30 meters and worn on a sporty anthracite honeycomb strap.
The watch is on sale for CHF 36,500 so grab one before they’re all gone this year.
