Ralph Lauren heads off on a Black Safari

Ralph Lauren has revealed three new models as part of its Black Safari collection seeking to evoke the African landscape and the romance of safari.

The collection mixes utilitarian aesthetics with refined elegance and complex mechanisms with a range-topping Black Safari Flying Tourbillon as well as Chronometers in 45mm and 39mm sizes.

Ralph Lauren commented: “When I started out as a designer, I dreamed of going to Africa, to safari. Safari is the dream of adventure. It’s about living the life you want and pushing yourself beyond your limitations. It’s the dream of experiencing the wild and seeing the farthest reaches of the world.”

The watches use stainless steel cases with dark matte finishing and large, clear indications coated in Super-LumiNova on the dial for strong legibility.

The Flying Tourbillon features deeply etched concentric grooves around the matte black dial and, inspired by the dashboard of Lauren’s own prized Bugatti, the dial is edged with rich brown elm burl wood. The watch is powered by the Côtes de Genève-decorated self-winding Calibre RL167, visible through a sapphire caseback.

The chronometers utilise the self-winding Caliber RL300-1 with a power reserve of 42 hours. The movement is decorated with Côtes de Genève stripes and perlage. The watches are water resistant to 100metres and certified by COSC.

The watches are secured with leather-lined canvas straps available in five different colours to further imbue the atmosphere of safari.
