POINTconnect watchstrap converts any timepiece into a smart device

German watch business Pointtec Electronic, owner of the Iron Annie and Zeppelin watch brands, has unveiled POINTconnect, a smart watchstrap that can turn any wristwatch into a connected device.

The key component of the watch is a world first curved OLED touch display on an adjustable rubber bracelet that fits comfortably around the wrist.

It is protected by a scratch-resistant mineral crystal that can display brilliant colours in high definition.

It runs off a powerful battery housed in the strap’s clasp that will stay running for up to a week between charges.

It is available in lug widths of 20mm and 22mm.

“The core components — the curved OLED display and the software — are in-house developments that were developed with competent industry partners. The result is a unique wearable that connects the world of analog wristwatches with the new possibilities of the digital world,” Pointtec says.

Functions on the POINTconnect and associated smartphone app include messaging, activity tracking, health monitoring through the built-in heart rate sensor, weather, NFC payment, Bluetooth, navigation and vibration alarm.

The strap is expected to go on sale ahead of Christmas this year along with an app for smartphones with iOs and Android operating systems.
