Smartwatch manufacturer Pebble has regained its crown as the highest grossing Kickstarter of all time, raising more than US $16million (£10.5m) in the process.
Pebble Time was launched on Kickstarter just nine days ago by the smartwatch company that started life on the crowdfunding website back in 2012. That launch became the high-grossing Kickstarter project at that time, raising $10.2m (£6.7m) in the process before being overtaken last year a cooler with built-in blender and Bluetooth speaker.
Pebble Time, the company’s latest smartwatch with colour e-paper display, timeline function and one week battery life, raised its pledge target of $500,000 (£328,000) in just 17 minutes, going on to reach the $1million (£656,000) mark 32 minutes later before smashing the $10.2m figure achieved in five weeks by the original Pebble Kickstarter in just 48 hours.
The Californian smartwatch pioneer yesterday announced that it was also working on smart straps for its smartwatches. The quick change straps would also serve as a connector for data and power as well as potentially housing a number of different sensors.
