Paul Maudsley heads up Phillips London watch team

Phillips has appointed former Bonhams’ watch specialist Paul Maudsley as International Specialist, Director of the auction house’s new London watches department.

Maudsley has 16 years of experience during which time he has personally handled the sale of 20,000 watches across three continents and achieving numerous record auction prices. Phillips credit him with “transforming the UK watches auction market”.

Maudsley is a keen collector of watches himself, having begun at the age of 13, helping him to develop “a love and broad knowledge across all areas of watches and wristwatches”.

Aurel Bacs, senior consultant working in partnership with Phillips, said: “We warmly welcome Paul Maudsley to the team and look forward to working with him on the lead up to our sales this fall on 7 and 8 November in Geneva and our inaugural watch auction in Hong Kong taking place on 1 December. Our existing team of passionate specialists has already demonstrated their strength with the outstanding results from the May auctions in Geneva and will further benefit from Paul’s knowledge and expertise.”

Maudsley joins Phillips international team of watch specialists including Kate Lacey, in London, Paul Boutros, international strategy advisor in New York and Jill Chen, business development director, based in Phillips’ Hong Kong office which opens in August.

Maudsley shares his love of fine watches with classic cars, and is a regular at international car events and contributor to automotive and watch magazines. He is also a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers.
