Paul Kustow to shut down Alexander Collections

Paul Kustow has announced that he will retire from the watch industry in 2014 as he plans to close down his distribution business Alexander Collections.

Kustow has run Alexander Collections with his wife Penny Kustow for the past 23 years. Most recently the company has been distributing German watch brands MeisterSinger and Nomos Glashütte in the UK.

As Alexander Collections plans to close down, the two watch brands have begun setting up alternative distribution channels to the UK market. MeisterSinger will move to distributor Nuval from January 1, while Nomos will set up its own dedicated UK office.

While Alexander Collections will hand over MesiterSinger to Nuval in the new year, the handover to Nomos will be a slower one, with the transition expected to be complete at some point during the first half of next year. Until that point Alexander Collections will continue to act as the brand’s UK distributor and has promised a "smooth succession"

Paul Kustow said: "We have enjoyed an amazing journey with our company, from distributing some of the most wonderful, luxury, collectible gift products, to retailing from our beautiful 16C shop in Old Amersham and then, in recent years, working with our luxury watch brands.

"The people with whom we have been associated over the years have been a key element in our business lives, including theowners and staff working in the companies we have represented, our staff, our trade and retail customers and so many individuals at the trade fair organisers, publishers, trade bodies and suppliers, who have been such a pleasure to know."

Alexander Collections also distributes watch box brand Scatola del Tempo and electronic music box brand Reuge in the UK. Kustow said that he is now in discussions concerning the future representation of these brands in the UK.

In July, Paul Kustow was named as a CMJ Brand Champion in the WatchPro Hot 100 2013 in association with The Company of Master Jewellers. He was singled out by the editorial team for his work in raising the profiles of Nomos and MeisterSigner in the UK.
