A 1955 Patek Philippe dress watch owned by Andy Warhol has sold at a New York auction for $101,600.
The 36mm 18ct gold automatic watch, ref. 2526, is an early example of a Patek Philippe with an egg shell colored enamel dial, and is cosigned by the famous Venezuelan retailer Serpico Y Laino.
It was first sold in the Andy Warhol Collection, Part II auction in 1988 along with almost 100 watches that were discovered by chance in a cabinet owned by the artist, which was being sold that year.
A compartment in the bottom drawer of his cabinet was uncovered and filled with unmounted gemstones, designer jewelry and watches including pieces from Patek Philippe, Rolex and Cartier.
