Patek Philippe ‘grail’ watch set for auction

A watch considered by many to be the finest produced in the 20th Century will be auctioned in Switzerland in November.

The Supercomplication was commission from Patek Philippe by New York banker Henry Graves Jr. in 1925. Delivered eight years later, the watch featured 24 complications and remained the most complicated watch in the world until Patek Philippe designed and built the Calibre 89 in 1989.

The Supercomplication was auctioned off by Sotheby’s New York in 1999 after Graves’ death, achieving $11million US (£6.4million) and becoming the most expensive watch ever sold.

Sotheby’s will once again auction the watch this time in Geneva on November 11 in its Important Watches sale.
