Patek Philippe announces steel annual calendar

Patek Philippe sent collectors into a frenzy when it announced it would be dropping the gold and platinum versions of its 5960 annual calendar chronograph in favour of a stainless steel version.

The 5960/1A is a rare example of Patek housing a complication, outside of the more casual Nautilus and Aquanaut collections, in a stainless steel case. The colourful dial and first example of the company’s signature, five drop link bracelet in stainless steel only serve to make the watch more desirable.

The 5960, Patek’s first automatic chronograph and a flyback chronograph at that, became an instant hit on release in 2006 with the most intuitive of annual calendar displays and its captivating chronograph ‘monocounter’ system of concentrically stacked sub dials.

The dial also manages to convey power reserve and night/day information without ever becoming too crowded.
