Pantone has hedged its bets for its Colour of the Year for 2021 by picking two contrasting hues: yellow and grey.
The decision, revealed this week, may have been influenced by covid cases rising in the United States and Europe, but also with eyes turning to sunny uplands on the horizon in the form of approved vaccines and therapies.
Pantone has named the two colours Ultimate Gray and Illuminating and says they “come together to create an aspirational colour pairing, conjoining deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the optimistic promise of a sunshine filled day”.
“The Pantone Colour of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that colour can hope to answer,” describes Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute.
