Panerai has brought back a Lo Scienzato (translation: the scientist) with tourbillon and GMT to its Luminor family.
The Scientist project dates back to 2010, when Panerai launched a watch to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Galileo Galilei, and has become a grail watch for Panerai collectors.
The name is given to the most advanced technical watches in the watchmaker’s portfolio. “Lo Scienzato has deliberately pushed Panerai’s existing technical and mental boundaries, revealing the electrifying horizons of a new dimension,” the company says.
This year’s Luminor Tourbillon GMT is revealed today as one of the most challenging projects to date of Panerai Laboratorio di Idee.
The 47mm watch comes in a Grade 5 titanium case, with a sandblasted finish that contrasts with a carbotech crown and bezel that also offset the military green and gunmetal grey skeletonised dial.
The combination of advanced materials make it 40% lighter than if it were made from steel.
It is powered by the P.2005/T hand wound manufacture movement that has a power reserve of 6 days.
