Panerai produces Luminor watches in collaboration with Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni

Mr Dhoni has long been an admirer of Panerai and at the end of 2018 became the brand’s ambassador for India.

Panerai believes India will become one of the top ten markets in the world for luxury watchmakers within a decade, the company’s chief executive Jean-Marc Pontroué, told a press conference in Mumbai this week to launch two Luminor limited editions in collaboration with Indian cricketing giant Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

“Cracking the Indian market is like running a marathon; it takes time and patience,” said Mr Pontroué. “In our geographical mix, there are mature markets which are growing at 3-5%, a few markets are shrinking, and there are promising markets where it’s time to grow now. For a brand like ours, India will be a big market in the next few years. Today, India is not part of top 10 countries in the world but in the next few years it will be in our top 10 markets,” he added.

Mr Dhoni has long been an admirer of Panerai and at the end of 2018 became the brand’s ambassador for India.

The company is now celebrating this collaboration with the launch of two new models: the Luminor GMT – 44 mm (PAM01056) and the Luminor Chrono Flyback – 44 mm (PAM01057).

The GMT comes in a steel case housing a P.9010/GMT automatic calibre while the Chrono Flyback model uses Panerai’s trademarked Goldtech for its case and uses a P.9100 automatic chronograph movement.

Their crystal case backs are decorated with a picture of Mr Dhoni during his career-best innings of 183, made against Sri Lanka in 2006. Both come with green dials and are worn on black leather straps with an additional green rubber strap provided.
