Oris’s Change for the Better campaign, which focuses on projects that clean, protect and restore the world’s water, is working this year with Seoul KFEM, part of the Korean Federation for Environmental Movements, to clean up South Korea’s Hangang River.
The Hangang is the country’s second longest but most important river because it supplies water to the 10 million inhabitants of the country’s capital, Seoul. But years of neglect have left it dirty, polluted and in desperate need of restoration.
“With every passing year, we grow more passionate about our mission,’ says Oris Co-CEO Rolf Studer. “Conserving the world’s water is critical; it’s also possible if we work together. That’s the underlying message behind the Oris Hangang Limited Edition and every piece we create with our partners,” he adds.
The limited edition to which Mr Studer refers is an addition to the Aquis family of dive watches.
It has a vivid green multi-tiered sunray dial with hours and minutes hands and a continuous seconds subdial at 9 o’clock and a date ring inside the hour markers driven by the Oris 743 movement.
It comes in a 43mm steel case with steel bracelet and goes on sale this month for £2,100 in a limited run of 2,000 pieces.
As part of the new partnership, Oris will be supporting a series of clean-up days Seoul KFEM has scheduled for later this year where hundreds of local volunteers will work along the river to pick up litter, plastic and other harmful pollutants and raise awareness of the importance of clean water in Seoul.
