NOMOS is right on time with latest update in midnight blue

The transformation took three years to come to fruition, because as detailed by the brand, for Tangente, the classic model from NOMOS, conditions for a design adaptation must be perfect.

The classic NOMOS model Tangente has received a new and striking look, further accentuating the innovative inner values of the watch.

The transformation took three years to come to fruition, because as detailed by the brand, for Tangente, the classic model from NOMOS, conditions for a design adaptation must be perfect.

This month sees NOMOS completely reimagine the date function and give it a new look. The classic aesthetic remains, yet it is now a sportier and more striking too.

The movement with the patented date mechanism can be set both forward and back-ward while the date display, also patented, has been given a fluorescent green addition.

The proportions are typical for NOMOS with the date watch measuring 41mm across and 7.8mm in height.

Powered by the innovative NOMOS in-house caliber DUW 6101 with a quick-set date function, it is also known within specialist circles as neomatik caliber with date.

With a 35.2mm diameter, it is not only very large but also exceptionally slender—measuring a mere 3.6mm in height.

Designers say it is therefore perfectly suited for classic watches that fit elegantly under any shirt cuff.

The DUW 6101 was completely reconstructed in-house and the date was located at the edge of the dial.

The date can be set both forward and backward quickly and easily, with only a few turns of the crown needed for any adjustment. Despite the limited movement height, this was made possible by a specially shaped gear wheel, which connects with the date disk.

The precision of the movement is ensured by the NOMOS swing system, the proprietary escapement denoted by the tempered blue balance spring.

Unique to DUW 6101, the gold-plated lettering on the rotor is embossed; and the words “reguliert in 6 Lagen” (adjusted in 6 positions) are engraved in two colors on the bottom plate.

This NOMOS caliber is lavishly polished and decorated—a piece of classic Glashütte watchmaking in a 175-year-old tradition, and a rarity today.

On the update, Uwe Ahrendt, engineer and NOMOS CEO, comments: “Perhaps at first glance one sees simply a new watch with a date function. But take a second look and you realize that this innovation surpasses anything else available on the market.”

The Tangente Update is now available in a new midnight blue version and while it came first, a second renowned NOMOS model is receiving its updated dial.

Metro gives its greatest performance to date in this version: Metro neomatik Update—the new watch release currently debuting at the Watches & Wonders trade fair in Geneva.

Set far out around the minute markers, where it is ideally placed, the Update date display ensures that the entire month is always in view.

On this design, Ahrendt says: “This design makes specialist watchmaking expertise visible for all to see; a pure representation of what this caliber is capable of.”

Metro is a more youthful model than the Tangente, the first version of which was introduced in 2014, with manual winding.

In 2016, the first version to be equipped with the ultra-slender neomatik caliber (DUW 3001) was released.

Metro has always had an elegant bezel similar to Tangente. But where Tangente is angular, this watch has characteristically round features.

The Metro sits flush on the wrist and its delicately domed sapphire crystal glass slips easily under any shirt cuff.

The Update watches have already received two patents: One for the pioneering date mechanism, the other for the unique date display on the dial, which makes the passage of the entire month visible to the wearer.

The watchmaking company’s eleventh caliber and the patents under its name directly result from the immense work conducted by the Glashütte research and development department.

CEO, Uwe Ahrendt, added: “It is the product of generations’ worth of knowledge—and cutting-edge research.”

With date markers in neon orange and a dark gray textile strap, Metro neomatik 41 Update has a sporty edge too.
