Nomos boasts 50% retail growth in the UK

German watch brand Nomos celebrated a record-breaking year in 2015 with expansion in the UK market playing a decisive role in its success.

While Nomos reports growth of 30% in the past 12 months, the Glashutte-based brand has grown by 50% in the same period.

Nomos cites its established retailers including Orro, Fraser Hart and Hamilton & Inches as well as new doors with Berry’s Fraser Hart and Watches of Switzerland as vital to its success in this country. Bestselling models in the UK include the Metro, Orion and the new Neomatik 1st Edition series, which according to Nomos is nearly sold-out.

The company has doubled in size over the last three years, citing the introduction of the Metro as raising the brand’s profile around the world, and is on course to perform the same feat over the next three years.

Despite the difficult global sales environment for watch brands Nomos is experience increasing demand, to the point where supply is described as ‘a challenge’. The brand has invested heavily in research and development; first of its own escapement – the Swing System – and most recently of an in-house, ultra-thin automatic calibre, the DUW 3001.

Uwe Ahrendt, Nomos’ chief executive officer, said: “We could sell more than we can produce. A watchmaking company that places craftsmanship and quality above all else could not grow any faster.”

With its watches available in more than 40 international markets, Nomos is now focused on expanding its US business.
