NOMOS bags prestigious design award for fourth consecutive year

German watchmaking company NOMOS has been crowned the winner of an industry-renowned award from the German Design Council for its Ahoi Neomatik Atlantic.

The German Design Award honours products and projects, as well as the manufacturers and designers behind them, which truly represent pioneering contributions to the German and international design landscape. It is awarded by a top-class international jury.

The timepiece, which was created by NOMOS designer Thomas Höhnel, is the sporty interpretation of NOMOS’s classic Tangente.

Ahoi Neomatik Atlantic, which debuted at this year’s Baselworld, is equipped with the ultra-thin NOMOS automatic caliber DUW 3001, and also features a smaller diameter of 36mm.

This new version of Ahoi won over the German Design Council’s expert jury with its straightforward form and sporty-yet-elegant aesthetic.

The wristwatch features curved sapphire crystal glass with an anti-reflective coating, as well as a dark dial with colourings. The back of the model is held firm with six screws, ensuring water resistance to 200m while the crown guard keeps it protected and gives the smaller version perfect proportions.

Its hands are a warm shade of rose gold, inlaid with green superluminova and its orange-red seconds hand contrast the dark dial.

The German Design Award is the third international design prize for the NOMOS model Ahoi, after the iF and Good Design Awards.

“Such an important award is a great confirmation of what we do, and motivation to continue our work,” said Judith Borowski, head of branding.

NOMOS, which is one of only a handful of owner-operated watchmaking companies worldwide, crafts fine mechanical timepieces in Glashütte, Germany.

To date NOMOS has been awarded approximately 140 prizes for design, quality, and value-for-money.
