Former world number one tennis player Naomi Osaka has been an ambassador for TAG Heuer since January last year and brings the brand a combination of star quality, global reach, youth and authenticity.
Her first photo shoot for TAG Heuer saw her wearing a luxury Connected smartwatch, a perfect fit for a 24-year-old global sports star needing to monitor her vital statistics during her punishing athletic schedule.
Ms Osaka’s appearance at this year’s Australian Open was an opportunity for her to put a difficult 2021 behind her and to show off the latest TAG Heuer wristwear to millions of fans around the world.
TAG Heuer even launched a special mint green Aquaracer in collaboration with her.
Having her wear a Connected smartwatch on court would have been a perfect promotion, TAG Heuer’s CEO Frédéric Arnault suggests in an interview with Robin Swithinbank for Hodinkee, but officials at the tournament prevented it.
“We tried, but she cannot wear any connected watch while playing professionally, because players aren’t allowed to communicate with others off the court during a match. And this would be considered a communication device,” he revealed.
