Murata saves the planet from four billion mercury-based batteries

Global components has been making mercury-free watch batteries in The Netherlands for 15 years.

Murata is celebrating 15 years of mercury-free watch battery production at its battery business unit in The Netherlands.

Mercury is an environmental pollutant which is very harmful to wildlife and ecosystems and can be damaging to human health.

Murata is a leading manufacturer of electronic components, modules, and devices. It has been producing silver oxide batteries for over 40 years and added to that capability by acquiring a micro battery factory from Sony in 2017.

To date, Murata has produced over 4 billion mercury-free silver oxide micro-batteries, saving 3200 kg of mercury from potentially leaking into the environment from spent batteries.

Murata batteries are distributed in the UK by Condor Group.
