Moon landing window sends demand for Omega Speedmaster watches into orbit

Berry’s has converted its Omega boutique in Leeds into a 50th anniversary tribute to man’s first mission to the moon and the role of Omega in supplying Speedmaster Professional watches to the Apollo 11 crew.

Visitors to the centre of Leeds this weekend will be confronted by a life-size golden astronaut on one of the city’s busiest shopping thoroughfares.

Berry’s has converted its Omega boutique in Leeds into a 50th anniversary tribute to man’s first mission to the moon and the role of Omega in supplying Speedmaster Professional watches to the Apollo 11 crew.

The Omega monobrand boutique on Commercial Street has a showcase of Speedmaster models on display, reminding customers of the Omega contribution to NASA’s advances in space travel through most of the 1960s.

Omega supplied the merchandise for the window, which Berry’s managing director Simon Walton believes is the only one of its kind outside of London.

Unfortunately, the most important Speedmaster launching this year, the limited edition 50th Anniversary edition, has sold out, Mr Walton tells WatchPro.

“It’s been a great success celebrating a moment in history. You wouldn’t believe how many people are taking selfies outside,” Mr Walton laughs. “We have sold lots of Speedmaster and have sold out of the limited editions,” he adds.
