Montblanc 1858

Montblanc inspired by mountains and glaciers for cool blue pair of 1858 watches

Two blue watches are revealed today, a limited edition Split-Second Chronograph with a production run of just 100 pieces and a new Geosphere.

Montblanc’s 1858 family of vintage-inspired sporty chronographs has new blue models this year, inspired by glaciers and snowy mountaintops, the company says.

Two blue watches are revealed today, a limited edition Split-Second Chronograph with a production run of just 100 pieces and a new Geosphere.

Both can trace their history back to chronographs made by Minerva in the 1920s and 30s, when the watchmaker was creating timekeepers for the military and other adventurers.

Minerva and its back catalogue is now owned by Montblanc, and has adopted Minerva’s founding year of 1858 as its own.

It is worn on an alligator skin strap and priced at $36,000.

From within, the automatic MB 29.25 world time movement drives central hours and minutes, date at 3 o’clock and second time zone at 9 o’clock, and representations of the northern and southern hemispheres at the top and bottom of the face.

It comes with a blue calf leather strap for $5,800 and is also available with a bi-metal titanium and stainless steel bracelet for $6,200.
