MECHANICAL WATCHES OF THE YEAR: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Royal Oak Offshore, the chunkier and tougher sibling to regular Royal Oaks, Audemars Piguet made a striking re-issue that uses 2018 techniques and technology in a watch that pays homage to the original and its decedents.

The 2018 model has a stainless steel case housing the automatic 3126/3840 calibre driving chronograph, hours, minutes, small seconds and date functions on an APs signature blue dial with Petite Tapisserie pattern.

This, however, is among our Watches of the Year, the honour of which goes to the more ballsy limited edition tourbillon chronograph, available in rose gold or steel (pictured).

Its connection to the original offshore is not at all clear because this watch is all about the future.
