Man in court over £1m Hamilton & Inches raid

A man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that took place at Edinburgh’s Hamilton & Inches in June, according to news reports.

31-year-old Michael Hood from Edinburgh appeared in private before Sheriff Lilian Patrick yesterday at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today in relation to the theft on June 6, in which staff were injured and an estimated £1 million worth of luxury watches and jewellery stolen, including Patek Philippe watches worth £342,920.

Police in Edinburgh issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to come forward on July 6, with news of the arrests announced today.

Police Scotland enquiries remain ongoing and it is understood two suspects remain at large following the raid.

The robbery, that took place on Friday June 6, involved three men dressed in dark clothing who entered the store at around 11.40am. They then proceeded to threaten staff with bladed weapons before smashing a number of display cabinets and stealing the items inside.

An inventory of all the stolen items continues to be undertaken but it has emerged that more than £800,000 worth of jewellery was taken from the window displays alone.

Anyone with any information relating to the robbery can contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
